Musings about: Muse - Map of the Problematique
I love all of Muse's songs. But there is something about this song that always gets me pumped. The awesome synth bass and drums help, but the lyrical content and vocal style is the main thing. Matt Bellamy's voice is amazing, and this is one of those songs that can't be covered by anyone else.
The song describes some sort of dystopian state of chaos, and the protagonist realizes it and longs to break free. However, reality begins to crumble around as he clings on to someone, who is never really specified. His world has been falling apart ever since he's met this person, and has been consumed by loneliness and yet refuses to let go of this person or their memory.
I've seen this before, and it's even happened to me. When you're going through something bad or tough times in your life, you find solace in a recreation or an outlet of sorts where you pour yourself into to forget whatever it is that is going on. Pretty soon, everything around you falls apart and you cut yourself off from people and it's because of this habit, yet you cling on to the habit because you feel it's all you have left.
It could be a beautiful girl. It could be drugs, or alcohol or gambling. It could be an tragedy.
But it's something you just can let go of.
